Iligan City | 7 Catholic Churches for Your Visita Iglesia
Holy Week (also known as Semana Santa or Mahal na Araw) in the Philippines is celebrated with as much passion as we celebrate Christmas. During Holy Week, which starts on Palm Sunday and ends on Easter Sunday, Christians commemorate the Passion of Christ, who died on Good Friday in reparation for the sins of mankind and rose on Easter Sunday to give new life to all who believe.
During Maundy Thursday, Christians observe Visita Iglesia, also known as The Seven Churches Visitation. Catholics go on a church pilgrimage and visit 7 Christian sites or parishes.
With Iligan City being predominantly Catholic, there are many Roman Catholic churches to visit for the annual Visita Iglesia. Here are some of them:
Another popular destination for Visita Iglesia in Iligan City is Corpus Christi Parish Church in Tubod.
