Kape Series: Red Ribbon
March 11, 2011 was my nth visit to Red Ribbon. I can't remember the exact number; can't even give a realistic rough estimate. Chef Xy-za knows why. :p
Anyways, I, together with the Yape sisters, went to the Red Ribbon shop at Gaisano Mall Iligan right after attending the e-commerce expo educational symposium at MSU-IIT. As a French proverb goes, "A good meal ought to begin with hunger." So, we're definitely off for a fantastic meal!
So here goes the review:
I like the ambiance of Red Ribbon. Though the space is a little cramped, it's relaxing, and by "relaxing," I mean not crowded, not noisy, not busy (most of the time, that is). You can actually just have an enjoyable meal here and forget about the busy halls of the mall.

Price:
Price range is above what I would be willing to pay for food. This is totally understandable though. We're actually just paying extra for the brand. ;)

Customer Service:
Their personnel are very well-trained. They were neat, attentive, accommodating, and courteous. Our orders were served promptly, and glasses of cold water were provided shortly after our request, pakapinan pa'g "Thank you for waiting ma'am." Naks naman!

Food:
Now, for my favorite part.
We really enjoyed the food, not just because we were super hungry, but the food was superb as always -- looked good, smelled good, tasted good. The portion size was just right, and the food was served with just the right temperature.

Red Ribbon's pasta was awesome. The carbonara did not have bacon bits, but we were informed about that as we ordered.
Their specialties include cakes, breads, and pastries. So these were undoubtedly particularly delicious.
Coffee:
It was actually last week when I learned that Red Ribbon already served frappes. I had Black Forest Blend that time, and it was too sweet and creamy for my taste. I also expected a little coffee as it was called "frappe" and I thought it would be a foam-covered iced coffee drink. However, it tasted more like the black forest cake blended and transformed into a drink.
Their Mocha Blend, which I ordered this time, was a whole lot better. Price was P85, which is okay (considering the brand). It was served cold, and it looked super yummy and mouth-watering. It was bittersweet in a dark chocolatey type of way with a soft bitter taste of coffee. The next time I'd order this, maybe I'd just request for a little less cream.

Disclaimer: This is the second of a series of posts on food review with special attention to coffee (first post here). Bear in mind though that I'm not a coffee expert and I'd prefer frappe over a steaming cup of brewed coffee any day. Opinions are mine alone, and I still suggest you try it yourself for first-hand experience.
