#EatIligan 2.0: Exploring Iligan City's Food Scene

ILIGAN CITY is fast becoming a foodie haven. Iligan Bloggers Society, Inc., in its effort to help promote the local food scene, conducted #EatIligan 2.0, a food appreciation tour for  Iligan-based bloggers last July.

Here's a quick video of the highlights of the 2-day event:

Ramen-Yah!

First stop for the incredible gastronomic adventure was the newest branch of Ramen-Yah Japanese Noodle and Bento Restaurant at Robinsons Place Iligan. Located at the Food Gallery (third floor), Iliganons have access to a quick fix for our Japanese food craving.

#EatIligan 2.0 Day 1

We tried Ramen-Yah's bento meals for our early lunch. There are a lot of options! My personal favorite is the chicken teriyaki.

#EatIligan 2.0 Day 1

What I like about Ramen-Yah! is its authenticity. From food to ambiance, it's consistently Japanese. Their food is also affordable. Bento meals start at Php 135.

House of Fries

We then headed to House of Fries, Iligan's first restaurant that features our favorite good ol' French fries.

#EatIligan 2.0 Day 1

Because it's House of Fries, of course we tried their fries! We had the sizzling fries topped with lots of cheese sauce. Yummy!

#EatIligan 2.0 Day 1

House of Fries' menu isn't all French fries though. They continuously innovate and create new recipes.  They also have burgers, calamari, and bingsu, among others.

Here's one worth all the calories: HOF Cheese Bowl, filled with beef, 6 kinds of cheese, and egg inside.

Pop Snack - Cathedral Branch

Third stop for the day is Pop Snack. We visited their branch at the back of St. Michael's cathedral.

They serve affordable trendy food. Here's a quick look at their menu:

We had this feast spread for us as if we weren't feeling full enough from the first two stops of the day.

I loved their brownie s'mores and brownie ala mode. If you're up for something hot and spicy, chili jalapeño is a must-try.

Frappella Crib Iligan

Before ending day 1 of #EatIligan, we sampled the frappes, sandwiches, and other treats from this cozy shop, Frappella Crib.

UPDATE: This shop in the photo has already closed and has moved to a new location. They are now at Door No. 4, Chelina Arcade, Tibanga (near Red Ribbon Tibanga).

Known for their cute and colorful frappes, Frappella serves a lot of fun food options as well - all Instagram-worthy. Loved the s'mores and mini burgers!

Pater Al-Kuwait

Day 2 of our #EatIligan 2.0 adventure started with lunch at Pater Al-Kuwait. We had pater (also known as pastil/pastel in Maguindanaon), which is steamed or boiled plain rice topped with shreds or flakes of chicken, beef, or fish and then wrapped in banana leaf.

#EatIligan 2.0 Day 2

Pater Al Kuwait serves pater with homemade palapa, a Maranao condiment which is a mixture of thinly chopped sakurab (scallion), luya tiduk (Philippine bird’s eye chili), pounded luya pagirison (ginger), and some toasted grated niog (coconut).

#EatIligan 2.0 Day 2

Palapa are also sold in sealed glass jars, perfect for pasalubong (homecoming gift or souvenir) for friends and family.

#EatIligan 2.0 Day 2

Speaking of pasalubong, we dropped by the House of Palapa and Pasalubong Center after lunch and tried the Deliciosa ice cream.

#EatIligan 2.0 Day 2

Deliciosa ice cream is available in popular flavors of mango, chocolate, ube, melon, and many more.

Schokolade Iligan

Another pasalubong idea for your friends with sweet tooth are these sweet treats from Schokolade. Not only are they pretty and yummy, they are affordable as well!

#EatIligan 2.0

They offer a wide range of products as well -- truffles, mini cupcakes, truffles, premium chocolates, and more -- for as low as Php75.00 per box.

Adventist Medical Center Iligan

This is perhaps the biggest surprise of our #EatIligan adventure, for me. We stopped by Adventist Medical Center-Iligan to sample their healthy dishes. For someone who thought healthy eating is generally bland and uncreative, this was a pleasant surprise.

#EatIligan 2.0 Day 2

Loved their tapa roll (made with gluten), vegetarian sushi, and choco-ginger cookies!

#EatIligan 2.0 Day 2

Pinch Sugar and Spice

The final stop for our #EatIligan weekend was Pinch Iligan! There is so much to love in this shop -- the food and art top the list, of course.

#EatIligan 2.0 Day 2

We tried their newest product, Pancit Palapa, a Pinch original recipe featuring the traditional Maranao condiment, palapa. It is a hot and spicy dish, with flavors exploding in your mouth.

I also love the tablea cake and classic pesto, best paired with the refreshing blue ternatea juice or moringa-cucumber juice or coffee.

Petscapes

The #EatIligan 2.0 team also dropped by Petscapes. Yes, it's a pet shop that offers pet grooming services and sells all kinds of treats for your fur-babies. They  also have an interesting range of fish and aquascapes for sale.

And yes, they do have a cafe. Bonus points for the fast internet connection. You can do some productive work while waiting for your pets getting groomed. :)

That wraps up our #EatIligan 2.0 tour. And we're starting to look forward to #EatIligan 3.0 already!
